I am always looking for new hands-on resources to add some fun to geography. For at least two years now I have been desiring a Hugg-A-Planet, and we finally got one. A Baby Hugg-A-Planet was sent to us by the wonderful people at Timberdoodle! It’s a soft globe with a diameter of 6 inches so it is perfect for little hands to catch. Our current globe is a tiny thing from the Target dollar section (last year) and the only one I could find was already cracked. The Hugg-A-Planet is so durable and child-friendly (machine washable!) in comparison. Best of all it is completely squishable and huggable!
The continents and oceans are labeled. The countries are outlined and are different colors. The regular Hugg-A-Planet has the countries labeled and is much bigger, but I actually didn’t want that. For us the Baby Hugg-A-Planet is a perfect review tool for the geography memory work. We play catch with the globe; the tosser calls out a country and the catcher must find it after catching the globe. Then we check our answer on our floor map or on our world placemat.
The Baby Hugg-A-Planet is actually part of Timberdoodle’s baby core curriculum, which is not so much a curriculum as it is a collection of terrific educational toys for your baby. While you wouldn’t be doing traditional lessons with a baby, infants and toddlers have very absorbent minds and Timberdoodle has chosen toys that will grow with the child and nurture the joy of learning.
Timberdoodle is a great place to shop for homeschool supplies or homeschool curriculum for any age or grade and you can order their free homeschool catalog too. The more I learn about Timberdoodle, the more I am impressed with their company and the thought they put into their curriculum choices.
Disclosure: As a member of Timberdoodle’s Blogger Review Team I received the Hugg a Planet free in exchange for a frank and unbiased review.
