Age of Imperialism and Gandhi
I was really hoping to find a good history book about Imperial India, but didn’t find any. If you know of one, please let me know in the comments. We have the DK History of the World book and it has one little paragraph on this (basically the same info we have to memorize for CC).
Rudyard Kipling was born in India’s Imperial era. I found a listmania of Picture books set in India. This list has some titles more suited to YA. And some books on Gandhi:
Trace the CC map and read some of our favorite books set in China (Ping for one)!
Types of seed plants
There’s a nice chart here that I want to discuss with Bear. We will glue it into her Nature Journal. We’ll go for a nature walk and find different plants and try to decide whether they are monocot or dicot from our observations and using the chart as a guide. The Happy Scientist also has a good description of the differences. We’ll look for pinecones and talk about them. Handbook of Nature Study has lots of information and is free.
If you want to grow some seeds:
Examples of Monocots are corn, onions, and Canna lilies.
Examples of Dicots are peas, carrots, lettuce and pumpkin.
I wanted a good book about evergreens and conifers, but my library has none.
Where Would I Be in an Evergreen Tree? looks like a beautiful narrative book about an evergreen’s lifecycle.
Evergreens Are Greenlooks too easy for Bear, but may be right for J-jo
