One of the beautiful books Tiger Tales sent us was one called The Fox in the Dark. Of all the books we received, it is everyone’s favorite. The illustrations are original and sketch-like. It’s a style that I don’t remember seeing before. The story lends itself wonderfully to doing voices and can be read with so much expression. Bear’s favorite part is when Rabbit says ‘friend or fox?’ She can often be heard repeating lines from the book in her pretend play.
I love that the title leads you to expect a certain ending that never materializes. Also, I think all of us can relate to Rabbit, who shows us that you have to share even though sometimes it’s not what you really want to do.
Another book Bear has really enjoyed from the library has been In a Blue Room. The illustrations are whimsical and the text poetic in a non-rhyming sort of way. A little girl wants everything to be blue as her mom brings her various items to help her sleep. Bear started rubbing “her drowsy eyes” and telling me so after reading this book. I love when books inspire my daughter to use more sophisticated words.
