Anna loved Little House on the Prairie, but this is the second book in the series. It might be a little confusing to know what's going on without listening to the Little House in the Big Woods first. I didn't mind those expressions in MTH books much, but we haven't tried to listen to them on tape.

I feel your pain because as you know JC is obsessed with them! There's few other words I wished she's chosen wisely. I think the later series are better as the sentenced structures are longer. Less of "Jacked asked" and "Annie said". We've been able to alternate with other books so it's not just MTH 24/7.

I agree with what both you and Joyful Learner said about Magic Tree House books. Since Joe can't read them independently yet and we do them as read alouds, I leave out all those phrases because we don't talk like that to each other in our home either. I also totally think the sentence structure could be longer and I often combine some as I read to make more complex sentences:-). What Joe doesn't know won't hurt him:-).

Finally someone else said it. When my son DJ first started reading chapter books this was our first choice. We switched very quickly for this same reason. I could no longer hear him read those words with great expression. Thank you for sharing. Now I don't feel so bad for switching/
