I picked up some coin stickers at the SchoolBox and whipped up a quick little coin recognition worksheet.
Bear had to look for the right coin.
Put the sticker on the sheet.
After she had put all the stickers on, we added them up. I had to offer guidance, but we found using the Montessori beads to represent each coin helped a lot.
With scaffolding, she completed the work successfully and was very proud that she had added up all those sums.
I will be adding a new sheet to our shelves for her to choose at her leisure, but I will make sure the coin amounts I choose do not require regrouping so that bear can complete the next one more independently. I’m also thinking that I will keep a set of the stickers to turn into velcro coins to make some reusable worksheets.
I love how this work aids in coin recognition as well as coin addition and how the stickers add a point of interest.
