Or How the Pink Tower and Brown Stair Inspired Math Today
Our pink tower and brown stair arrived in the mail (ordered more for J-jo when he’s ready than for Bear). We had fun doing some of the extensions.
(Bear has been very taken by photography lately. So much so that when her brother climbed into his chair by himself she cried out, “Don’t move! I have to take a picture!” and took off running for her camera. She sounds just like I do when I want to take a photo for the blog.
Rolling beads down the stair. They made such a beautiful and captivating musical sound, like rain falling. Bear rolled them down the stair over and over and over.
We built a very long snake (notice the camera in her hands).
We measured it with nonstandard units (mommy + Bear). The snake was longer than the two of us put together.
Then we measured it in centimeters.
Then we built our number with the tiles.
If you don’t have a pink tower and brown stair, you can just use any old blocks to build a snake and then measure that.
