We read Storm in the Night by Mary Stolz. It’s a Five In a Row book. Although I am not using the FIAR volume 1 book as a curriculum, I am finding it is enriching our reading of picture books. I found I accidentally discussed what should have been five days worth of stuff all in one sitting. Also, Bear didn’t care for this book much (probably because of her fear of storms) and didn’t want to listen to it more than once (although I did manage to convince her that we should read it at least twice).
After looking at the illustrations and discussing how the artist showed light by using white and yellow hues on top of the dark colors, we went to do our own painting of a stormy cloud, experimenting with adding white or black to blue.
We also experimented with brush strokes and brush tips to create rain.
