After posting how I struggle with teaching science, I determined to face my dragon and just get past my hesitations.

I set out right away, pulling out my Building Foundations of Scientific Understanding and heading to a topic we’ve never covered – Energy.  The first thread (or lesson) was to discuss the four main types of energy (they can be broken down into more forms, but he leaves it general for the K-2 group) and then sort things into how they get their energy to move or work.  We could have done it all orally, but I wanted a bit of a hands-on aspect. After looking on the internet for something and not finding anything free that used photographs, I created our own Energy Sort for the lesson. The kids sorted the cards as we discussed and we then followed up our discussion with a lesson from (review coming next week).
